I mulled over Steve's offer, glanced at my 61-year old legs and wondered if they'd be able to compete against these guys who were significantly younger and stronger. "I have a snowball's chance in hell!"
The course was a rolling 1.6-mile loop and the race officials advised us that slower riders would be pulled for safety reasons.
"God," I prayed, "I hope that won't be me!"
I've heard cyclists chant this as the #1 reason to shave and, until recently, I filed their mantra under the "Biker Bullshit" category. However, research shows shaved legs are more aerodynamic.
